Test your material with our Science & Learning team

Commissioned slot-die coating trials for inks, slurries, and other formulations outside our application areas.

When your application is not listed

Slot-die coating works with a wide range of inks, slurries, and other liquid formulations. The nine areas on our applications page are examples, not a complete list. If your material falls outside them, our Science & Learning team can run it as a commissioned research project.

Tell us what you are coating and what you want to achieve. We assess whether slot-die coating suits your ink or slurry, coat it, and return samples with the process data behind them. It is a paid service, scoped and quoted before any work starts.

How it works

1. Tell us what you are coating

Describe your ink or slurry, your substrate, and the film you want to achieve. A target thickness and an end application are enough to start. Nothing needs to be shipped yet.

2. We scope & quote the work

Together we agree on the tests, the materials, and the substrates. Our scientists then prepare a research plan and a quote before anything is run.

3. We coat your material

Our scientists run preliminary tests and then the full trials, at the FOM laboratory or at your site. You are welcome to take part.

4. You receive samples & data

We present the results, discuss the findings with you, and suggest possible improvements. The coated samples are yours to keep and test further.

Where the work takes place

Commissioned research runs at our laboratory or at your site. If you already coat your material and need help with one specific problem, you can book a scientist online instead.

At the FOM laboratory

Our scientists run the trials at the FOM laboratory in Copenhagen, Denmark. You can leave the work with us, or visit and work alongside the team.

1 day (7 hours) or 2 days

At your site

Our scientists work with your team in your own lab, on your equipment and with your materials. The results apply directly to your own process.

2 days

Book a scientist

For researchers who already coat their material and need help with a specific problem. A FOM scientist analyzes the issue and proposes a solution in a video consultation.

What to tell us

Nothing needs to be shipped before we have spoken. The more of this you can give us at the start, the sooner we can tell you whether the project is worth running.

  • What your ink or slurry is. A description is enough at this stage.
  • Your substrate, or the substrate you plan to use
  • Target wet or dry film thickness, if you have one
  • The end application and what the film has to do
  • Any coating method you have already tried, and the result

What you get back

  • Coated samples of your material on your substrate
  • An assessment of whether slot-die coating suits your ink or slurry, and what would need to change if it does not
  • A presentation of the results, with a discussion of the findings and possible improvements
  • Hands-on experience with slot-die coating, if you choose to take part in the work

Sample volume, handling, and safety documentation are agreed with the Science & Learning team during scoping, once we know what we are working with.
