System overview
FOM Tensor is the slot-die coating software that runs the FOM vectorSC, the FOM alphaSC, and all FOM roll-to-roll machines. It combines a guided workflow with detailed protocol management, so researchers can produce precise, reproducible coatings from lab to pilot scale.
The interface has five modules: Home, Protocol, Coating, Settings, and Notifications. They keep the same layout regardless of machine size or application focus, so a protocol developed on a benchtop unit is managed in the same way on a pilot-scale line.

Reproducible coating, run by protocol
Intuitive interface
The workflow follows the order of a coating run, from protocol setup to execution. Each step is clear, so new lab members and experienced users work on the system in the same way.
Protocol management
Researchers define, save, and export every critical parameter as a protocol, including wet-film thickness, coating speed, drying temperatures, and coating gap sequences. Stored protocols give uniform, reproducible coatings between batches and across FOM machine platforms.
Structured process optimization
Process optimization follows a methodical, scientific approach. Each run starts from the parameters stored in the protocol rather than from manual settings, which removes operator-induced variability and shortens the path to pilot or commercial scale.
Process control from one interface
FOM Tensor manages coating sequences, drying profiles, and heating from the same interface. On roll-to-roll machines, it also controls web handling and web tension, so the full coating process is controlled from one place.
Unified navigation & control
Each of the five modules covers one part of the work, from protocol setup to diagnostics.

Home
The central navigation hub. It gives direct access to Protocol, Coating, and Engage, which starts the coating run with the parameters the user has set. It also shows the status of the connection between the software and the machine hardware.
Protocol
The configuration center for process recipes and automation. Researchers define, save, and export all critical parameters, so experiments can be reproduced accurately. Key variables include wet-film thickness, coating speed, drying temperatures, and coating gap sequences.
Coating
The execution screen for real-time machine control. Operators start movement, manage pumps, and switch heating on and off, while they monitor live readouts of position, temperature, and dispensed volume.
Settings
The administration screen for advanced system configuration. It gives secure access to machine-level parameters such as motion limits and PID thermal tuning, and to general settings such as date, time, and power-saving timers.
Notifications
The diagnostic and safety log. It shows real-time alerts and the alarm history to support troubleshooting. Events such as a safety interlock activation must be acknowledged manually before operation can resume.

Frequently asked questions
What is FOM Tensor?
FOM Tensor is the slot-die coating software that runs seven of the nine FOM coating machines. It combines a guided workflow with protocol management and real-time machine control, for precise, reproducible coatings from lab to pilot scale.
Which FOM machines run FOM Tensor?
FOM Tensor runs on the FOM vectorSC, FOM alphaSC, FOM photonR2R, FOM omicronR2R, FOM omegaR2R, FOM compact moduloR2R, and FOM moduloR2R.
Which parameters can be stored in a FOM Tensor protocol?
A FOM Tensor protocol stores all critical coating parameters, including wet-film thickness, coating speed, drying temperatures, and coating gap sequences. Protocols can be saved and exported, so an experiment can be reproduced accurately at a later date.
Which process functions can be controlled in FOM Tensor?
FOM Tensor controls movement, pumps, and heating, and manages coating sequences and drying profiles. On roll-to-roll machines, it also controls web handling and web tension. Coating starts with Engage, which runs the process with the parameters the user has set.
What does FOM Tensor show during a coating run?
The Coating screen shows live readouts of position, temperature, and dispensed volume while the operator controls movement, pumps, and heating. The Notifications screen shows real-time alerts and the alarm history. Events such as a safety interlock activation must be acknowledged manually before operation can resume.
Are FOM Tensor software upgrades included?
Software upgrades are included in the Premium care package of the FOM Customer Care programme. Contact our service lifecycle management (SLM) team for the full terms of each package.
