High throughput desktop roll-to-roll coater
Robust slot-die sheet coating system
The system is designed for the fast-and-easy coating of functional materials in laboratories aiming for multi-user high throughput research on topics such as organic and perovskite electronics, sensors and energy storage. Similar to the FOM scalarSC, the FOM vectorSC is a compact setup that can be easily installed inside a laminar flow hood or a glovebox. The FOM vectorSC incorporates a proprietary design for excellent substrate flatness due to the microporous structure of the substrate holder. Additionally, we integrated the pump into the tool with enabled cloud-based software allowing for remote operation and diagnostics.
An alternative to spin coating
Whether you are doing fundamental research or developing a new process for your product, the FOM vectorSC is a direct route from spin coating toward medium-scale, industry-relevant processing where rigid and/or flexible substrates are required. The incorporation of a microporous substrate holder will provide homogeneous suction avoiding extra steps that are typically done to fixate the sample into the substrate. Together with the software integrated pump, the FOM vectorSC will allow for high throughput, and accelerated workflow.
Automated handling and alignment
Both flexible and rigid substrates up to 300 × 200 mm can be mounted on the microporous vacuum holder, which draws them flat without tape or clamps. Coating runs from recipes through the graphical interface, with quick-action buttons for the steps operators repeat most, and motorized slot-die head positioning available as an option.
The same result from every operator
An integrated syringe pump from 1 ml to 300 ml sets wet film thickness in software rather than by hand, and recipes hold the parameters between runs. In a shared lab where several people run the same experiment, that is what keeps results comparable across operators and across weeks.

Frequently asked questions
What coating width and speed does the FOM vectorSC support?
FOM vectorSC coats widths from 1 mm to 200 mm at speeds from 0.01 to 5.0 m/min, with coating lengths up to 300 mm. The substrate holder measures 255 × 355 mm with a microporous vacuum area of 210 × 306 mm, and accepts both rigid and flexible substrates.
Which slot-die heads fit the FOM vectorSC?
FOM vectorSC is compatible with slot-die heads from FOM SD 25 up to FOM SD 200. Shims and guides are available for adjusting coating width and pattern, and slot-die head heating runs up to 80 °C.
How does the FOM vectorSC dry coatings?
A built-in hotplate handles drying on the machine, with substrate holder heating up to 200 °C. An air knife system and an IR drying system are available as additional drying options.
What does the FOM vectorSC need to be installed?
The machine measures 530 × 870 × 500 mm (L × W × H) and weighs 71 kg, with 200 mm of recommended cable clearance. It ships with a separate electrical panel measuring 1000 × 300 × 950 mm and weighing 90 kg, in carbon steel, connected by a 4.5 m cable as standard; extension cables are available in 5 m intervals. Power is 3-phase + N + G at either 200–230 V or 380–415 V, 50 or 60 Hz, with a maximum current of 24 A. FOM provides a CEE plug for the panel; the cable from the main supply to the panel is not included, and 12 AWG / 4 mm² is recommended. Compressed air runs at 5–7 bar, clean, dry and non-lubricated to ISO 8573-1:2010 Class 1.2.3 or better, via a Ø8 mm push-fit connection. An Ethernet connection over RJ45 is required.
How is the FOM vectorSC operated?
Coating is automated through a graphical interface backed by an integrated PLC control system, with quick-action buttons for frequently repeated steps. The machine can be accessed remotely from a PC or tablet for operation and diagnostics, and coating protocols are saved to the cloud. Motorized slot-die head positioning is available as an option.
What options are available for the FOM vectorSC?
Equipment options include a laptop, an ionizing system, a flexographic system, positioning sheets, a blade coating system, slot-die height and slot-die height and alignment laser systems, an equipment mounting system for multiple options, and motorized slot-die head positioning. Air knife and IR drying systems are available for additional drying, along with an enclosure, glove box adapter cables, standard and high-viscosity syringe pumps, stainless steel, glass and PPTT syringes, syringe heating up to 80 °C, and slot-die shims and guides.
Does the FOM vectorSC meet European machine safety standards?
FOM vectorSC is built to EN 60204-1 and ISO 13849-1 (CE), complies with Directive 2006/42/EC Annex II B, and its electrical panel is built to UL508A.
