Steel slot-die head FOM SD 500

The widest head in the Steel series, for coating widths from 10 mm to 500 mm.

Widest steel head in the series

  • Coating width from 10 mm to 500 mm
  • Fits the FOM alphaSC and moduloR2R
  • Viscosities from 1 cP to more than 100,000 cP

In addition to that...

  • Flatness tolerance of 5 µm or better
  • Stainless steel, chemically passivated
  • Low dead volume to reduce material waste
  • Pressure measurement and air ventilation ports
  • Stripe and patterned coating with custom shims
  • Use with or without a meniscus guide
  • Alignment features for shim and meniscus guide positioning
  • Optional slot-die head heating to 80 °C

System overview

The FOM SD 500 is the widest head in the Steel series. It coats widths from 10 mm to 500 mm and fits the FOM alphaSC sheet coater and the moduloR2R roll-to-roll line.

The shim sets the coating width and the stripe pattern, and the meniscus guide stabilizes the bead. The head also has a pressure measurement port and an air ventilation port.

Frequently asked questions

What coating width does the FOM SD 500 support?

The FOM SD 500 coats widths from 10 mm to 500 mm. The width is set by the shim, so one head covers the full range.

Which FOM machines is the FOM SD 500 compatible with?

The FOM SD 500 fits the FOM alphaSC and moduloR2R.

What viscosities can the FOM SD 500 handle?

The head is rated from 1 cP to more than 100,000 cP at 25 °C. The practical upper limit also depends on the pump and fluid delivery system of the machine.

What is the FOM SD 500 made of?

The head is machined from stainless steel and chemically passivated. Shims and meniscus guides are cut from stainless steel. For chemistries that attack stainless steel, the PEEK series is available in widths up to 200 mm.

Can the FOM SD 500 be heated?

Yes. Slot-die head heating to 80 °C is available as an option.

Can the FOM SD 500 coat stripes?

Yes. Patterned shims produce stripes and discrete coating areas. Standard, custom and bespoke patterns are available.
